Another wedding - Pt. 2 … among other things
Sunday, 12 March 2006
My cousin, Amanda, and my new cousin-in-law, Lui, had their wedding bash at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel last night… at the Grand Ballroom no less.
I was rather thrilled about the prospect of going to the Mandarin. After all, Mariah Carey stayed there when she came in 2004. I wanted to ask Amanda and Lui to take me up to their wedding suite to see the room, just to get an idea of where Mariah Carey stayed. Of course, I didn’t.
Ok, so the wedding was great. The food was so-so but what do you expect of wedding dinner food?
Just to give a slight chronology…
We had the cocktail before the wedding so this involved us milling around, greeting each other and saying pleasantries.
Then we sat down at our respective tables and the night began.
The good thing was that the speeches were short and simple. Actually, the whole night was short and simple. The emcees didn’t rant off with private stories and there weren’t performances or anything so it was short and simple.
They wanted to finish the event before 11pm and they got their wish. Our waiters were putting food on the table and even before we could finish, they were taking it away. Haha.
The photo slideshows they had were excellent too. There was one with their studio shots in some garden and they looked extremely amazing. Both are photogenic so the pictures were quite nice. I liked one shot in particular very much. Hopefully I will get a shot of it soon. It was of my cousin leaning on a doorpost and her back was towards the camera. I just loved it… the pose, the shadows, the lighting…
Then there were the baby pictures and them coming together. It wasn’t cheesy so it was good.
I wanted to take pictures but I didn’t charge my batteries beforehand since I thought I hadn’t taken that many photos the day before. Oops. I couldn’t take any photos ’cos my camera died before the dinner even started. Oh how awful! I did get a shot or two so I’ll stick it up when I’m home.
Overall, it was good.
I drank some red wine. The good thing with their wine was that it tasted like Ribena.
AND I still got drunk. Oh the sadness. I didn’t get too tired but I was acting a bit hysterical hugging the bride and groom telling them they looked amazing and it was a great dinner.
My cousin looked absolutely fabulous in her gowns too. She looks wonderful in orange and I thought it was great. Yup, if you look through my photo gallery you will see some pictures of my cousin dressed in an orange gown for my sister’s wedding and she looked wonderful too. Yes, she was our choreographer!
My dad was ill before and mid-way through the wedding dinner. I was touched too since the night before, Amanda messaged my dad to thank him for coming to the church wedding because he wasn’t feeling very well on Saturday. I guess people thought he wouldn’t be able to make it but he did.
My dad has been talking about the wedding for weeks and months so I don’t think he would have missed it so I thought it was really nice of my cousin to message him and to thank him.
My older sister flew off to London straight after the wedding. What a life she leads, eh? The jet-set lifestyle. She’s off to London to do some modelling for 4 days. Ha-ha. Financial modelling, that is. I was hugging and screaming at her too last night, shouting my well wishes… told you I was drunk.
I came home and went straight to bed ‘cos I had work. Wah! I’m at work now. My boss is not around today and I’m supposed to be researching and re-categorising some stuff. HMm… It’s difficult some times when you’re given free rein to do things. Would the usage of that phrase be “free reign” or “free rein”? Hmm…. OR am I using the wrong word???

Church was good yesterday too. I agreed with everything the Pastor said. The topic of the day was “Miraculous Signs” and she was referring to John’s Gospel and his usage of the word signs and what it meant and the positive and negative sides to signs and wonders. I have always thought that we shouldn’t focus on the miracles that happen but really look behind at what God is doing and why… to look at the person who did the miracle and not the miracle and I was really happy that this was the message yesterday because…
The night before, ie Saturday night, my dad was telling me about his little journey and how he wants me to write it all down for him. It was great to hear him talk with so much faith and that is an answer to my prayer… truly, God has answered my prayer.. AMEN! It happened at the same time that I felt a breakthrough so it really was a breakthrough time for us. You can read my side of the story if you scroll below. I should categorise it, “Breakthrough”, we’ll see…
I was happy that our pastor also mentioned that it isn’t about getting well ‘cos if you focus on getting well all the time and on wanting God to heal you and perform a miracle, you lose sight of what’s important and that is a relationship with God. You expect God to work this miracle and if He doesn’t, you get disappointed. It would be limiting God I guess but He can give so much, the peace, the joy and the blessings that flow.
Since that breakthrough week, it has been an amazing time as well to see so many people come to pray for my dad… pastors from our church, pastors from other churches, friends and family who come to visit my dad and he was telling me and I can see that his heart has changed. That is a blessing! That is an answer to my prayer… and God did it all… even though I was worrying anxiously at the sidelines wondering how to do it with my own might… I didn’t need to in the end…. GOD DID IT ALL! AMEN…
The Holy Spirit and His work is so evident and Jesus and His work too!! Not forgetting the Father… I was so encouraged on Saturday night.
This is a miracle in itself and it is not the end… God will continue to do great things I am sure. This will be an exciting little project to work on with my dad. HURRAH!

If you noticed, in my sidebar, I have stuck up links on Stopping TB and please sign up for the “Call to stop TB”. World TB Day 2006 is on March 24, 2006. It was fun sticking up the links. I was so proud of myself. It was easy to do but still an accomplishment.
Right, till the next post… I messaged my cousin to offer my services ie my website for her photos and she’s said yes so you’ll see photos soon. Oh yes, orange is the new pink!!!
