Katharine McPhee reminds me of Victoria Beckham

I know I should stick up pictures of their resemblance but I think that Katharine McPhee has a lot of Victoria Beckham-ness in her… the slight snarki-ness that people talk about, the glamour, the looks, the hair, the high cheekbones, the almost there wittiness, the beauty, the coolness, the confidence, the girl power…

I have basically been in McPheever mode the last few days. I can’t help it. There’s just a lot of Post-Idol things happening and actually, I’m now manically trying to retrieve McPheever Idol moments as well as other interesting segments from other entertainment sources about American Idol. I can’t concentrate on all top 12 as much as I would like to … keeping up with Katharine has been a whole day affair and my internet connection has been holdng up. It’s been pretty fast and that’s rare…

I was thinking about my obsession compared to my previous Idol obsession. Actually I dissed Jasmine Trias yesterday on the forums. I was watching a Fox web interview where Jasmine was asked how her ride has been so far post-Idol and in my opinion, she made major no-no’s… I know it’s insignificant but as someone who did see potential in her before, it’s disappointing and a bit… awful.

She said she was doing really well, making it big in “Asia” and the Philippines, doing McDonald’s promos, hitting Platinum in sales in the Philippines. It cheesed me off when the interviewer asked her how many platinum is in the Philippines and she got defensive and said, “platinum is platinum” … when he asked her for a number, she said, “platinum is a million, isn’t it?”

I did a bit of research and found out in the Philippines, platinum sales translates to 100,000 albums in sales. 100K is not bad at all. She made herself look really bad … it made her look juvenile because she didn’t know how many she sold, she wanted to seem big and popular… so amateur, you know? I think I was a bit mad because she lumped Asia and the Philippines together … it’s like a half-truth because yeah she’s big in the Philippines but she’s nowhere near popular in Asia. I live in Asia and I haven’t heard about her in Malaysia yet! Soooo…… I was annoyed.

I don’t know what happened. I used to like her a lot you know? I saw so much potential and it just fizzled and died. Now when I see pictures of her, I actually get the creeps.

I must give props to the American Idol stylists though - the hair, make-up and fashion people because… I remember thinking Jasmine looked amazing in the show and when she came out of it, she couldn’t really capture that look again. I have to say she looked her best in the show.

So Katharine, you should get amazing stylists too but I don’t think there’ll be much of a problem dressing her up.. I do hope she keeps her figure though - I hate stick people.

Back to the comparison of my Idol obsession with Jasmine I rooted for her right from when she sang, “Inseparable” in the top 12 performance. 1st impressions work… with Katharine I noticed her maybe when she was in the top 24 but I noticed Lisa Tucker a lot more… and then I noticed Elliott and Bucky… I think these 4 probably intrigued me the most and if I have to say, Katharine was last on that list… but she’s had some power performances and I’ve grown to like her but it’s not like I was as obsessed compared to with Jasmine Trias - that was a crazy affair that started from Top 12… I mean, with Kat, it only started maybe a week or two before the finale and the whole manic-ness turned on in the last week of the finale which was this week so you can imagine…

It’s a different experience… unlike following the journey that closely, I’m just getting into it now… I mean, with Jasmine before, I was definitely more involved in her process than I was with Katharine’s… I mean, only now I’m starting to watch media on Kathrine…

I’m sorry the only topic of conversation is American Idol. I’ve just been so wrapped up in it. I just watched Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest on Larry King Live… Larry King took the night off and Ryan stepped in to interview the trio.

Randy gave props to Mariah! Woo woo! I haven’t had time to write about her little ‘adventures’ yet… :P

There’ve been a lot of post-Idol interviews with Katharine… and there were some people who found her a bit… obnoxious… haha.. ‘cos she spoke her mind, how she would never have taken a second glance at certain guys in the competition… and she’s not afraid to say what she thinks… she’s pretty blunt and direct… she doesn’t really meander, you know?

Most of them called her tactless but I thought it’s great that she’s like that. I mean, you don’t get all the fluff but it’s rather substantial stuff. She’s talking about stuff that she believes in and she seems like a really confident person, open about her views, who won’t let people step on her that easily. Although, once her management team is established that might all change ‘cos they have to work out a look for her, etc etc … I like people who can say stuff on their mind you know? Just mean what they say. I hope she stays this way…

I think with Katharine, what is so different is that she kind of knows the ropes since she was doing all of this before she was on American Idol… she did have a manager, she did go for lots of auditions, she did do some independent stuff, some theatre and I think it’s great that she knows just a bit… how she says the company that reps them is 19 Management.. I like how she says it too.. like it’s normal, like it’s all good … I know it’s unnerving to most people that she’s already thinking of acting so early on but the point is, she was acting before she was singing.

She’s almost like a whole package… she’s an entertainer and it’s great… she’s got the talent and I think she worked hard for it… fought the odds. On top of that, I think her stage presence improved. She did improve as an artiste…

I think I can see where her “mechanical-ness” comes in now… she’s very on time with her moves, her glances, she’s calculated and it’s good because like theatre, everything is choreographed too. Ryan said how American Idol may look so spontaneous but it really isn’t. Not with the performances anyway. They need to know where to stand, etc etc… where to move, how to move because of all the cameras…she’s different from Taylor who works the stage in a different manner so I think it’s great that they are both so different in terms of character, personality, performing… even genres of music so it’s great… :)

She was in the bottom 3 with Lisa and then she was in the bottom 2 with Chris and with Chris, the backlash was tremendous but she still made it to top 2 so I think that speaks a lot about her determination.

Also her fanbase… and it is interesting that without local town support, she’s made it to top 2. I mean, there’ll always be this horrible vibe surrounding her because of all the controversies the show has put her through… but she’s come so far… I don’t know… it must mean something, right? THe support for her has been pretty phenomenal and I hope she keeps that in mind… She was able to wade through all that negativity to come up as a winner as well…

I think it is awesome that so many doors are opening up for her too. That’s good news… a lot of potential collaborations… rumoured ones anyway for now…

By the way, did you know Katharine’s boyfriend (the one mentioned in my previous post) is 19 years older than her?? This was probably why I was so stunned. She likes older men.. HMmMMMmm….

Ok, enough about american idol… Just watched their ET segment… it’s interesting…

I just read this but Elliot sang on a Gospel CD in 2005. Here’s the link. Hmmm…

I think I could ramble on about American Idol all day. After all, I’ve been reading up on katharine mcphee all day… trying to catch up on what I’ve missed…

I think I’m falling sick. Carmen was sniffling all day today and yesterday and it got my nerves… I hate sniveling kids… and I think I caught her virus. Yuck. ‘Cos I’m starting to sniffle too. Plus my joints feel slightly achey…

Oh dear… Church tomorrow. It’s 4:30am right now…  I know, I’ve been really shallow these last few days. My blog hasn’t really had any substance. That night when my post didn’t get posted, I did talk about bible study and a meet up with a friend but yeah, I left it out just because…

Yesterday, a friend came over to my house and while trying to manouvre her car, it kind of fell into the drain outside my house… so that was an experience altogether… my dad, brother in law, guards and maids all came out to see what could be done. It was raining too by the way… She didn’t want to go anywhere after that so we stayed in and watched The Perfect Man.

Today, I attempted to watch Fighting Temptations but I haven’t finished yet… I caught McPheever and I’m still rather delirious. I feel like I’ve missed so much, so I’m attempting to catch up. I know it’s going to be a process but I’m trying to do as much as I can ‘cos my internet connection has been pretty good. Gotta take advantage of that.
