Do I want to be wise or foolish?

Last night’s bible study was heavy. We are at the tail-end of Matthew 7 so we were learnign about false prophets and also about the wise and foolish men and where they built their house.

I was late to bible study because I had to help my little sister with her English project. It consisted of burning her work. HAHAHA… anyway, we succeeded and then we had a bit of a screaming match but all was well.

The point is, I was quite freaked out with what we learned last night. It was so serious. I thought about myself and whether I am a real Christian or not. At times like this when we learn these biblical virtues we like to think of others ‘who are falling short’ and we worry for them. I think of other people… “so and so is not doing what the bible is saying… oh no!”

But we can’t really look at other people before we look at ourselves, right? It’s easy to see the fault in others but we are usually blinded by our own faults.

Besides hearing, we have to live out and apply what we learn and listen. It’s easy to listen and easy to say but hard to do.

It got me thinking how I am not living out much from what we’ve learned from the Sermon on the Mount… I’m still quite “sombong” (proud) and I still have a lot of rage in me.

I really hope when when the day comes and I meet my Maker and I say, “Lord Lord…” He doesn’t say, “…Away from me, you evildoer!” (Matthew 7:22-23)

It was serious because if we believed in God we are meant to have the Holy Spirit with us and He’ll teach us self-control and He’ll help us change. However, if we don’t clean ourselves to allow the Holy Spirit to dwell within us then how are we to follow what God has laid out for us?

This is scary ‘cos so many of us lack the willpower to change and we allow the devil to continue deceiving us. How? We believe that we will never be able to change but with God, everything is possible…

Like I said, I can look at other people and think, “Oh my, that person better change… can’t they see they aren’t obeying God?!” but who am I to say that when I myself have such a short temper and I still sin…

I guess it’s great that God has grace for us.

I was listening to the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful today (both sung by Mariah Carey) and the one line from America the Beautiful that stood out for me was, “God shed his grace on thee”. It got me thinking how America was based on that belief and they sought out new lands to be different and to live according to God’s purpose and will. How things have changed for them. Besides wanting to take out everything that has to do with God in their constitution it saddens me to think that they have begun to believe in themselves more than the One who led them there in the first place.

For all of us, we have such short term memory. We forget so easily how much God has blessed us. We take it for granted and then it just slips out of our memory and we have trouble even recalling what was so great about the blessing in the first place.

I am always so impressed by those people who change so much because of what Christ has done for them. Those who do a 360 degree turn because God has given them a 2nd lease on life.

I don’t know…
