The OC - Season 4 Episode 7

No introductions needed I suppose…

In my opinion, I really liked the storyline for this episode… it’s different, a mixture of science fiction and reality… I loved the editing once again, especially with the flashbacks from alt.universe to real world… and not forgetting the different theme song!

It almost plays on those fan fiction themes that happens so often on the internet… where fans write their own storylines and here, the OC tries their hand at, “… what if?”

It took the OC 7 episodes to give Ryan the closure he ultimately needed… to move on. It is interesting that he would get a letter from Marissa after so long but it’s great that Marissa actually wrote him a letter to begin with before she left to be with her dad or to work on a ship or something. It is true, they have a lot of love for each other but maybe they weren’t meant to be together.

I guess it’s also good that Ryan can now stop blaming himself for Marissa’s death. If he hadn’t come into her life, she wouldn’t have been able to graduate and she would have died 3 years ago. As much as he’s always felt out of my place at the Cohens, he should have no reason to blame himself for anything but he was their blessing in their disguise… he gave Marissa an extended lease on life where, again Taylor summed it up, where she learned to love and change and that’s excellent… not forgetting, because of Ryan, Seth and Summer are together…because of him… so as much as he’d like to say it was his fault that Marissa died, he brought in more good than bad… so maybe he realises this now? It’s closure for him and maybe a fresh beginning too.

Seth has changed… if it wasn’t for Ryan, he would have gone to Brown and still be the snivelling whiny brat that he was in the alt.universe.

In a way, it’s good for Seth…. with Summer and Ryan in his life.

It’s good to see Julie change as well… she’s come a long way since Marissa’s death… she’s not as selfish anymore and she’s more sensible too.

This episode wasn’t about Seth and Summer or Sandy and Kirsten. In fact, they were banished to the sidelines this episode… it was really Ryan’s storyline.

What I liked about this episode was that the “new” regulars, Taylor and Kaitlin, have such a major part to play in this episode.

I loved Taylor throughout this whole episode. Her voice is just so cute and so emotional when she speaks… it’s great… I loved it at the beginning when she’s telling Ryan off for hurting her feelings and then throughout the alt.universe parts… her facial expressions are just right on the money and I love her phrasing and the way she speaks… her “hello’s”, “sorry’s” are just tops!

If you remember, if someone can speak well, phrase well and have good pronounciation, I will fall in love with them…

I thought it’s great that she got to be part of Ryan’s alt.universe too… in other words, drawing them closer together and I believe in the coming episodes, they will grow closer and it’s great. I like how she’s the headstrong one in their relationship.

I noticed a change in Ryan too… maybe it’s because Marissa died and he really doesn’t want to protect anybody anymore.. he doesn’t feel the need to or maybe he doesn’t feel capable anymore and having someone like Taylor who is independent yet insecure… it’s a great balance they strike. Ryan is insecure too but pretty solid as a person and maybe that’s what she needs too.

Ryan’s just different and I like it that Taylor challenges him and doesn’t let him accept whatever he wants… she does bring out the positive in people and that’s great… what a motivator. It’s good to know that she’s so smart too and can lead them to do the right thing all the time… and most of the time, her schemes and ideas have worked…

I really liked how Taylor also got some closure for herself… when she called her mom, “a bitch”… I think for her, she realises it’s not something she can change… and she can put it behind her… plus, I think she just needed to say that.

I also liked how she can read Ryan’s mind and finish his sentences all the time since he’s so monosyllabic.

The other character that I thoroughly enjoyed watching this episode is Kaitlin… she has very funny, stony expressions too… I can’t explain it… I’m not sure if it’s the way she speaks or her expressions but it’s so good.

I think she’s gonna be a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood in the coming years.

I love the way she drawls and talks… I really do… it’s so unique and she’s got an amazing body… the one scene when she was at the airport and Ryan stops her, I thought she looked so amazing in that crisp, white shirt and the Berkeley sweatshirt around her waist. I have to say, her slender arms are so amazing and the way she moves is so graceful and fluid. I took screenshots of her back… she just looks hot… even from the back…she’s got really good eye make-up too but I’m guessing this is because she’s got great eyes?

Kaitlin Cooper - The OC S4 E7

Most importantly, her storyline is interesting too - with Marissa dead, Kaitlin shines…and is a prodigy at UC Berkeley… it’s something to take note of… It shows that she is actually a very smart, wise girl and yet because she was overshadowed by her sister over the years, she was never able to show her potential… if Marissa had died and Ryan had not come into the picture, Kaitlin would have blossomed…

But I guess it’s good to see Kaitlin spending time with her mom decorating the Christmas tree and also enjoying the Cohen’s and Taylor’s company at the hospital… I love Kaitlin.

I thought Summer looked really pretty in the real world…

I’m not sure whether I should comment on anything that happened in the alt.universe. I guess, I should…

Interesting that they would refer to Kirsten as the “ice queen” in the alt.universe. I am guessing Kirsten would have turned out really differently if Ryan hadn’t shown up.

I have to say that Winchester and Summer getting together is pretty shocking. I mean, does this mean they are also kind of meant to be?!

Hmm…. Summer looked pretty hoe-ish in the alt.universe. Don’t like her there at all, depth-less.

Anyway, that’s my little take on episode 7.

I thought Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson were a bit stiff together… maybe even awkward in their scenes together but I could be just imagining things… sigh. I’m obviously still in denial.
