Can you imagine being paid US$250,000,000?! Think about it. It’s a quarter of a billion! So it’s stretched out over 5 years… whatev! Give me $50,000,000 a year as a one off! Just once or even… give me one month of that ($50,000,000 / 12 = $4.167million) and I’ll be a happy camper!
How does one get so much money? It’s unfathomable. Well, it’s a reality now since that is what David Beckham is going to get when he joins LA Galaxy. Never heard of LA Galaxy but soccer in America is really not a big thing anyway.
Many have labelled him as a has been since he’s getting old and his career hasn’t been particularly stellar at Real Madrid. Not forgetting he did resign as England captain since England lost out at the World Cup last year.
But people can’t deny his star quality. We have to admit it was because of him that there has been more attention on Real Madrid and the Spanish league than there ever has been. It’s definitely gotten more press coverage. Of course soccer fans will beg to differ but come on, when David Beckham moved to Real Madrid in 2003, I’m pretty sure I saw more Real Madrid (Beckham 23) shirts on sale and I read an article once that stated that Real Madrid merchandise sales went up by 300%!
His name, David Beckham, carries so much weight. Even with his move, he can garner international headlines. MLS (Major League Soccer, I found out) and LA Galaxy will be on everybody’s lips by next week.
Some articles report that the US$250 million include endorsements and sponsorship deals… hmmm… it’s still a lot! He’s relying on the Beckham brand. I have to say that’s smarter than his other soccer friends. The truth is, you kind of fade out after 30 in soccer or in any other sport (maybe not golf) but it’s good that he’s capitalising on his fame.
The Beckham brand is managed by 19 Entertainment and CAA… how interesting. Simon Fuller (19 Entertainment) is not that interesting since I knew about him managing the Beckham brand a few years ago but CAA is!! It’s excellent though. CAA manages Katharine McPhee and a slew of other well known celebrities. We can’t say bad things about Simon Fuller. He did bring the Spice Girls to us and the Idol franchise!
Hollywood will be excellent for the Beckhams too. They’ve somehow been able to keep themselves in the tabloids after all this time in the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia. World domination, that’s what it is.
It’s definitely more than just soccer now… it’s everything else that David Beckham may be good at and it’s not a bad thing. Don’t put your eggs into one basket and you know, once you reach the mid-30s, your sports life starts to take a dip anyway.
I’m happy for the Beckhams. I’m always happy for them. I think they are a pretty amazing family.
