What I saw at the Oscars…

I only have to comment on a few things.

When Ennio Morricone won his honorary award, I was moved to tears. He has had such a great career, a man with so much passion and depth. His head was bowed and I found that extremely humbling. Indeed for a man who has done so much in his life time, who has composed some of the best music scores in film history, to see him stand there and acknowledge the standing ovation with a bow, that is pure humility. I loved it that he spoke in Italian. It proves that music is universal, that it crosses boundaries and oceans and that music expression is more emotive than words…I love him because he has composed and directed some of the best pieces, in my opinion, in music/movie history. 1st of all, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso… aah, what more can I say? I found out tonight that he also wrote for Lolita (1997). He has been part of the best in cinema and when he honoured his wife, wow, that was truly, the most beautiful act of love i have seen in awhile… the way he held the Oscar up to her, wow.

The Dreamgirls medley proved one thing - Beyonce is really the best singer out of them. Jennifer can’t hold a note live. She was a bit off-key, screechy and she didn’t deserve centre-stage. I thought Beyonce did a much, much better job at singing and she does deserve her Grammy accolades because her voice has the most exquisite tone… compared to Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose who sounded a lot like nails on a chalkboard. Indeed, the wonders of production. It was able to gloss Jennifer and Anika’s voice to make it bearable on the ears in the movie but the truth was revealed at the Oscars. Beyonce trumps them in beauty and in voice. Especially, the voice. I mean, listening to them live, Beyonce had more control, she didn’t need to prove anything and she has so much range. Plus, I love “Listen”. Too bad, Jennifer had to sing a bit of it and destroy it for me. Truly, Beyonce, Beyonce, Beyonce!

I liked how the camera was on Beyonce when Jennifer Hudson won. Luckily, Beyonce has grace and poise to smile and actually look quite happy for Jennifer.

I liked that The Devil Wears Prada was nominated. How strange, isn’t it? Such films usually don’t get the light of day at the Oscars, so I thought it was a welcome change to the usually dreary night. Ooh, I liked Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt’s stint on stage while they were giving out their awards for Best Costume Design.

I thought Jaden Smith was mighty cute on stage too…

What else? Did y’all see Nicole Kidman?! I liked how bold she was this year with her bright red gown. She never disappoints with outfit choice. Is she not a stunner or is she not a stunner?!!!

I liked that Emily Blunt’s dress matched her eyes.

Beyonce looked pretty stunning on the red carpet in her pale apple green gown and her dress she wore while singing in the medley was also REALLY sweet.

Ooh, Jada Pinkett Smith looked hot in her golden yellow gown but I believe another actress wore a simliar dress.

Oh, Cameron Diaz looked pretty amazing with her smoky eyes too.

I thought Diane Keaton’s eye make-up was really well done.

I liked it that the Academy Awards this year was peppered with actors that are successful in their own right, making blockbuster hits that may not be Oscar-worthy but are crowd pullers and deserve recognition nonetheless.

Reese Witherspoon’s dress and hair made her pretty forgettable.

Meryl Streep seemed so at ease and she’s so graceful. Even though she was just sitting in her seat, there’s just something about her…

I quite liked Penelope Cruz’s dress… very elaborate and quite a nice colour. She looked like she had on lots of make-up but she still was quite pretty.

I liked it that at the after-parties, Portia De Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres wore matching colours! So sweet! Portia looked quite pretty too. She had too though since her beau was the host of the Oscars!

And the belle of the night - - - Helen Mirren. How could I forget her? I find her VERY attractive. I really do. There’s an aura about her. I’m not sure if it’s the silver hair or her perfect wrinkles or her eyes….maybe it’s the glow… a confidence… I’m not sure but she’s hot!

I noticed a lot of people who attended the Oscars had botox-ed themselves and most of them were men… Clint Eastwood looked rather plastic, Al Gore…I’m sure there were others.

That’s about it, I guess. Can’t comment much on the awards since I didn’t watch any of the movies except Dreamgirls and The Devil Wears Prada.
