The Pursuit of Happyness

Wanna read something I wrote?

Will money make us happy?

The one thing that irked me about this film was just that it relied on self more than God.

The song they sang at church was called, “Lord Don’t Move That Mountain”:-

NOW LORD DON’T MOVE MY MOUNTAIN
BUT GIVE ME THE STRENGTH TO CLIMB
AND LORD, DON’T TAKE AWAY MY STUMBLING BLOCKS
BUT LEAD ME ALL AROUND

Even though they sang such a song, it still felt like he relied on himself which of course, makes those of us who rely on God look like wimps in comparison.

The truth is, he did bring it upon himself. Kind of. He was always thinking of making it big and rich quickly. That is why he bought the bone density scanners in the first place. ‘Cos he thought that was his lucky break.

Then of course, without those bone density scanners, he might not have become a stockbroker.

It takes a person with an incredible something to achieve what he did. Some people may wallow in their misery and live on welfare for the rest of their lives. God knows there are so many of us around where we think the world owes us a living. We blame everybody else but ourselves… we take things for granted and expect the world to fall on our laps.

This was what was so inspiring. But it makes us believe in ourselves which some times is not a bad thing. But I believe in having steadfast faith in the Lord to get things done.

You could tell the son knew what was happening. You could see his son’s unhappiness through the kindergarten’s window.  He felt most at home with his father and that is what is so impressive because that is how we are like too. We never reveal our true feelings of insecurity to our parents who do their best for us but when we’re alone, away from their presence, our emotions run loose.

But besides money, how happy can they be?

Does happiness mean security then? If we’re secure, then we are happier? More at ease maybe… there are people who are rich and unhappy.

It’s a very American Dream movie … you can make it… opportunities are there, you just have to find it or be lucky enough. Hah. Or maybe work hard for it.

I dunno. There were just lots of things that didn’t sit wel for me.
