The most poignant scene for me in Charlotte’s Web was when Charlotte, the spider, explained to Wilbur, that she would not be following him home to the farm.
I cried so much in the last 10 minutes of the film. I had tears streaming down my face, I was choking, I was moved. I really was.
“Wilbur… we’re born, we live, and when our time comes, we die. It’s just a natural cycle of life.”
- Charlotte A. Cavatica, Charlotte’s Web
I can’t believe this is a kid’s movie. Not many people think of death like that. Even Wilbur, in his innocence, never thought of death like that. He just didn’t want it to happen so soon. Charlotte is so profound.
Charlotte sacrificed so much for her friend. She put her friend, Wilbur, first. That is unconditional love. It wasn’t that Wilbur was special… he may have been cute and innocent but that was it.
It is hard to accept the cycle of life. Think of the butterflies who only live 2 weeks… how do they enjoy life we ask?
I remember watching the credits of Charlotte’s Web and thinking how amazing God is. Why? ‘Cos he made this world so perfectly. He really did. The end credits had a field full of dandelions and there was wind blowing and the pollen from the dandelions were flying everywhere. How beautiful and graceful is that! God created that…
I think about the cycle of life. I think of Charlotte and her very short life.
Intervention works though. It saved Wilbur’s life momentarily.
