I thought I’d give a bit of updates.
So, there’s only one more episode left to The L Word Season 4. WAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!
Time has flown by.
I love the L Word. I have been reading up on people’s comments and although there are those, “She’s hot… their hot…that scene was hot” comments, what is wonderful about this show is the psycho-analysing that ripples through the messageboards.
With subcultures of this nature, you got people always wondering, why are they way they are? Even the show has a psychologist/psychiatrist character who goes through this process of what makes a lesbian a lesbian… although it’s not my most favourite storyline of the show, at least they try to address it and answer the question that there’s no stereotyping involved.
I love how they talk about each character and what makes them special and unique. They talk about the friendships and relationships and how they’ve evolved and it’s really quite wonderful to just be involved in the whole process. Doesn’t it sound like I AM IN THE L WORD?! hahahaha….No but it’s a very complex show… you got, Max/Moira, the “man trapped in a woman’s body” … and it is difficult because she/he suffers work discrimination, gets disowned by his/her family, feels so uncertain of herself all the time…
Then you got Tasha, a soldier who is back from Iraq… who can’t be open about her homosexuality on the army base, who is traumatised by the war and with what she’s seen that she protects herself so much…
The other storylines - Phyllis, a middle-aged woman who finally lets herself succumb to “who she’s been all these years”… causing her family to break up in confusion - Shane, who grew up an orphan because her parents left… she grew up with so much insecurity, unable to attach herself or be too involved in relationships.. it is heartwarming to see her learn to love and be in solid relationships…most importantly, to see her believing in herself that she can love - then you have the same-sex parenthood discussion, does it work? - you’ve got the girl, getting more unbalanced as the seasons go by, attributing her warped nature to the fact that she was raped when she was a child (I think…) - Dana, dying of breast cancer (the hardest thing to watch on tv ever)… I remember sobbing so much at the Season 3 finale, absolutely and totally heartbroken …
The drama is intense. Hah to all of you who think this is fluff…
