Malaysia is a strange place. What more can I say? We bicker about pathetic issues and let the crucial issues slip us by.
The boy who murdered his tuition teacher’s daughter does not deserve to be free. He deserves a longer jail sentence of at least life imprisonment. Who cares if he feels remorse? As the reports in the papers say, “Although a 17-year-old, the boy is still trapped in the mind of a 13 or 14-year-old. He stopped growing up the day he stepped into prison.” I like how they said he needed re-education. It dehumanises him.
What does he know about remorse if his growth is stunted?
Do not tell me that he made a mistake. He stabbed a girl 20 times. COME ON! Is that not insanity? Was he not possessed by rage? What pushed him to the brink? Mere taunting? That is not a good enough reason.
He does not deserve to roam on our streets! I can actually feel my skin crawl.
He is not a child anymore. The day he stabbed and killed that kid, he became an adult. Maybe in Malaysia, with over protective family members we gloss over these “minor details”. It isn’t minor. He lied to get out of the tuition teacher’s house. He made excuses and in the end when the teacher called him up, all he said was, “sorry”?
He should be tried as an adult. Our judicial system is in shambles. I am appalled.
We scorn at Lindsay Lohan’s action and condemn her ”lack of moral fibre” (it’s such an intelligent phrase to say but at the end, do people know what it means?
A boy got away with a meagre 5 year jail sentence for murder because he is underaged?!! Where’s the moral fibre?! When will fair justice be meted out on those that surely deserve it?
He should be tried as an adult. I hated how the press made his time in prison sound fun - playing football with inmates and reading storybooks… I hated how he wanted to be a lawyer “to defend the people with the same fate“. WHAT FATE IS THAT?!
As the mother of the murdered girl says, “I am stunned“. Not you, I’m sure there are other people throughout the nation, stunned.
Our government better do something fast. Their ratings are fast slipping in my opinion. It explains their need for damage control by arresting bloggers. What do you achieve at the end of the day? Stop preening yourselves! Do something good for society for once!

Dude, think about it - what if he’s your son or brother? Imagine if you’re in his shoes, have some mercy will ya.

I couldn’t agree more with you when you said that the boy HAS to be punished. But unfortunately Malaysia does not provide law that binds the boy, so as how Karpal Singh put it- the boy who was held on the King’s pleasure is merely UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
The furore shall begin if the boy is left scot-free, imagine how fast the crime rate shall rise? If our country is reluctant to make haste and set up a law in Parliament, then any kids below 18 can KILL and just laugh at their predicted consequence - being set free.
By saying that “We have no choice but to free the boy” is not sufficient until and unless the country begins to make a new law that protects the society, kids are becoming intelligent day by day thanks to the advancement of technology.
By the way, it’s cool that you voiced out your concern, not everyone can stand the freakish judgement anyway.

i am not a lawyer and as such, it took me a while to understand the technicality of the whole release.
but then again, perhaps it’s fate or the hands from above who wants to give him a second chance.

I am with you in this. That murderer must not escape true justice.
The thing is , it is as you say, this nation is fast becoming a strange place to be.
When Mankind does not uphold God’s Supreme Constitution and try to outdo Him, this is what happens.
Justice is abused and misinterpreted by ordinary beings who are caught in a web of deceit of their own and all with vested agendas.
Criminals go off scot free and victims die into obscurity!
Malaysia truly boleh!!!..Lingkup kalau terus macam ini!

Dear Afif - to be merciful, you have to be just. If I was in his shoes, I wouldn’t say it is unfair to be sentenced to more jail time. From the newspaper (I read two) sources, he seems like a coward, unable to face his tuition teacher. If he had used the time in jail to think of what he’d done, he would ask for forgiveness. Did they not get him good counsellors in jail who could tell him that what he did was bad and wrong? Instead at the press conference (I think our journalists aren’t inquisitive enough and they ask stupid questions), everything was so light-hearted… like going to jail was a holiday. It proves first of all, that he’s a child who had no idea what he’d done. He killed someone so he should bear the consequences instead of hiding behind his family members and thinking his actions are excusable just because they forgive him.

second chances or not it vexes me a bit how the focus is on the criminal and not so much on the crime or the victim. i won’t be surprised if after this, seeing that his previous incarceration wasn’t really legal, the boy would then sue the government for wrongful imprisonment.
i pity the family of the victim coz for them the whole emotional roller coaster ride ain’t really over yet.

I agree, Acat. Somehow, the press is partly to blame. They aren’t using their influence or riling us up to demand change. The media has a lot of power but somehow, they fall flat here.
I demand change and for this kid to be tried as an adult when he turns 18 in a few weeks.

He was 12. He went nuts. The law (or the lack of it) let him go scot free. So, what will happened in his future, we won’t know. But I hope the girl’s parents will find it in their heart to forgive and move on and the boy’s parents will have better control over their kids. There are lots of nutty kids who are roaming around due to their equally nutty parents. This is our society and the world over. Maybe by tomorrow, I won’t even remember this case anymore. Bah, I don’t know what I am crapping but yeah, he is one lucky dude and I hope he make the best of it.
