What is Petronas trying to tell us?

The new Merdeka advertisement from Petronas obviously has a message. What do you think it is?

Here’s the ad:

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/Uey90v9vEN4" width="350" height="275" wmode="transparent" /]

Is it telling us not to be idealistic and to be realistic?

Is it telling us that we’re lazy and can’t be original?

Is it telling us not to cheat other people?

Is it about friendship? What kind of friendship though? One that takes advantage of the other and is reliant on the other and is not very appreciative?

Are there symbolisms involved? Is the plumper man a representation of wealth and religiosity? Are we meant to look at it as an analogy of our society and cultural norms?

Does it move us to change?

What do you think?

this is an old village tale from centuries ago. an example is found here:

some other Petronas ads also used those old legends, like the one about the grandson and his grandfather who is being neglected.
