Mariah Carey - Touch My Body Video Premieres

This has to be Mariah Carey’s best video yet. A no. 1 song and video through and through. I wrote my thoughts on the song a week or two back.

The video for Touch My Body is so funny. I love how pretty she is, how elegant she is in some scenes, I love it that it’s a boy’s fantasies so it includes racing cars and playing laser tag. I love it that she can make fun of herself and unicorns! hahaha

There was a running joke/rumour that Mariah might name her album “Unicorn” < Mariah Carey mentioned this awhile back and so it’s probably a jab at that rumour. Well, she’s had “Butterfly” as an album title, not forgetting “Rainbow”… I love Mariah.

I like how natural she is in this video - how she’s not putting on or over-exaggerating her movements… how you can see that she’s quite relaxed in front of the camera.

I love all the shots when she’s alone … she looks stunning and hot and everything in-between.

I like the choreographed bits like this shot above… and the winks and the hand movements that go in time with music. One of the things I like about Mariah videos is how she always has something like this… like hand movements that go in time with the beat or blinks (We Belong Together-esque)…

I love the fantasy sequence of this video - it’s hilarious to say the least. How does Mariah do that?! Have a story in such a short time. I like the smile she flashes the Compu Nerd at the beginning… and I like how he tries to imitate Mariah’s high pitched voice. Only Mariah can make fun of herself tastefully. She’s so cool!

Brett Ratner rocks. I love that Mariah keeps on returning to him and they have such a great relationship - from Heartbreaker video to Get Your Number video to Touch My Body… I mean, he knows how to work her. I love it that Mariah sort of helped propel him to superstardom… just like how she’s propelled so many other directors, producers, rappers, singers… she’s just amazing. The industry knows but they don’t give her enough credit for it.

I love this video because Mariah focuses a lot on her ad-libs, her”oohs” and “aahhs”. All those coos she does and it’s great that she’s given it such importance. It’s what I like about the song anyway… and I just love it that she sings along to those background vocals and so does the male character who is so good at acting super dorky. He does have a sort of Austin Powers feel to him. The background vocals is what makes the song. I stated this in my song review.

She’s so fit as well - really well toned and she deserves to show off her body. It’s hot. Man… she looks amazing. Her hair looks more natural - less extensions or puffy-ness which is a pleasant surprise and the colour is definitely a lot richer and darker. Man, she’s hot.

I don’t quite get the part where she flashes her underwear but it’s definitely intentional because it got quite a lot of screen time and it’s probably referencing the has-been teeny boppers who can’t seem to put any on. Probably saying she’s better than them ‘cos she’s got her underwear ON!

And the best part of the video has to be the end when Mariah asks the Compu Nerd if he’s upgraded her wireless network to 802.11n… HAHAHA this definitely caught me by surprise but it’s so funny. I mean, who knew that Mariah, being a diva and all, would know what a 802.11n is?! I guess she’s trying to say she’s not a Barbie… but she actually does know a little? She did sound convincing too.  I bet you so many people will watch this video and wonder what is 802.11n is. I BET YOU!

I love this video - and that’s the general consensus among the fans which is definitely an achievement in itself - usually the fans are the worst critics. MC’s having a laugh and we should all see she’s trying to tell us not to take her too seriously.

When I first thought of the video, I thought it’d be nice if Mariah sang this song to a guy and re-enacted all the things she sang of in the song. It’d definitely be rated NC-17 or something but the song is so sensual and sexual … with the whole “rocking, lulling, swaying” vibe it emits. I can totally imagine people having sex to this song. However, if Mariah had done that, it would have made the video common and boring. So I’m glad that Mariah went in this direction. It’s refreshing, a change and definitely leaves us screaming for more!

Can I just say that my favourite line in this song… or one of ‘cos there are so many things I love about this song is the chorus where she sings, “touch my body, put me on the floor, wrestle me around, play with me some more“… the way she says “floor” and “more” is exquisite… it makes me melt EVERY TIME. Just the way she pronounces those words. I’ve been playing this song on repeat for the last 2 weeks or so and I think I should give it a rest just because I’ve definitely heard it more than a 100 times already…
