Too Sexy for School

First of all, I’m not sure WHY Malaysians breed such strange, fundamental creatures. The Malaysian government (public) school uniform is anything but sexy. PLEASE! Although I must admit that yes, the school shirts and baju kurung can be a bit see through but it’s airy though. And come on, they are already wearing a camisole and layers inside. If they wore a thicker material, they will melt in our very un-environmentally friendly air. Malaysia is literally boiling and without air-conditioning at some of these schools, you can imagine how stuffy, humid and suffocating the heat can be.

The uniform is not flattering to the body in any way. Even if they hitched it up an inch or two, it’ll make the uniform look really ugly. There’s nothing alluring about them.

Munirah said that “covering up” according to Islamic precepts was important to fend off social ills, including “rape, sexual harassment and even premarital sex.”

“This leads to babies born out of wedlock and, to an extent, even prostitution,” she said.

“Decent clothes which are not revealing can prevent and protect women from any untoward situations,” she said, suggesting that girls wear a blouse of a different colour or with an undergarment.

I think so many other factors attribute to the social ills in our country.  And the school uniform is definitely not it. Of all the things they pick on, they pick on the uniform?! COME ON. I actually think our uniform is decent and respectable looking. It’s one of the best things our education system has spawned.

If this woman had her way, she’d probably dress school girls in the burqa.

Education is key to our problems. However, I’m afraid with the dominant religion in our country, we’re in trouble.

UK Sex Offenders Claim It’s Against Islam to Talk About their Crimes

Muslim sex offenders could opt out of treatment programme ‘because it’s against their faith’

Ok, so that’s in the UK but I think the Syariah Law has provisions for such ridiculous male chauvinism.

What does it mean to cover the head? The head is the most important part of the human being. The head contains the brain. When the brain stops working, our life comes to an end. When our brain works, we do great things. Human beings use their brains to create everything we see – airplanes, missiles, medications, books, plays, and films. All these great things are produced by the brain. So why do they cover the head? Because it is a symbol. It symbolizes the assumption that women have no brain, no head, and that the man, her husband, is her head, her brain. I oppose this symbol, which, in my opinion, is against women and is inappropriate.

If we compare Islamic teachings in the days of the Prophet Muhammad to this day, we see that we are regressing, rather than moving forward. There was more freedom and more openness back then. I oppose Al-Azhar as an institution. I oppose those in charge of it. In my view, they spread backward and reactionary Islamic ideas, and they play a role in reinforcing the fundamentalist ideas in society. - Source

The point is, why pick on the school uniform?! It’s regression. Some times, I think progression in Malaysia was a HUGE mistake. ‘Cos we’re OBVIOUSLY not ready for it.
